Addiction treatment and recovery need planning if clients hope to make these changes permanent and lifelong. Our objective, as we incorporate recovery planning, is to identify our goals and then refer to them throughout the treatment process and long after treatment. Life is slightly different in residential recovery than in the outside world. During a full-fledged residential rehabilitation program for drug and alcohol addiction, clients are highly supervised and guided to understand better their disease and how they should view it.

Overview of Our Recovery Planning Process

Every program at Cypress Lake Recovery begins with a comprehensive assessment that allows us to develop an individualized treatment plan tailored specifically to each clients needs. Detox is usually required, but should no detox be required, we move straight into individual and group counseling. During these counseling sessions, we begin educating each client on their disease and allow them to open up about their tendencies in active addiction. We then pose questions about triggers and why people react to things the way they do and then understanding how to recognize any addictive behaviors. The next steps during recovery planning are to prepare clients for these moments in their lives where they’re presented with two options, recovery or relapse. The Goal: Healthy Living and Emotional Wellness

There are a variety of factors that contribute to stress outside of residential recovery. We look to understand on a case by case basis, what stresses might potentially present themselves to our clients seeking recovery. Regardless if drugs, alcohol or a specific behavior is the issue, we need a plan and a structure for the future. What is it that we’re looking to accomplish? Our clients are offered the holistic approach to addiction recovery, and we instill in them the feeling of wellness, physically and emotionally. Throughout every single exercise and treatment we offer, the final result is that we feel comfortable and good about the process.

  • Am I fulfilled in mind, body and spirit?
  • What can I take with me after my residential treatment is finished?
  • Is there an integrative treatment that I think would work better for me?

Find Out What You Need to be Well

Each client is encouraged to take stock of these feelings as they move through their recovery program with us. Each treatment is created and customized for them, and it’s important they pay attention to the things they can use in their everyday lives after treatment. Whether or not it’s reciting the 12-steps, practicing yoga and mindful meditation, or deep breathing exercises. Everything we share with our clients is adaptable for life after residential addiction treatment. Some counselors may even suggest a wellness journal, which is often used in writing therapy, as a way to learn from these therapies.

Within these journals, you will be asked to write down all of the things you feel and can make use of in times of distress as relief and a compass should you find yourself at a crossroads. In these journals, we also ask that you create an ongoing list of things that you need to feel happy, well and healthy. After detox and acceptance, these things that we need to make ourselves happy without drugs, alcohol, and addictive behaviors, become more apparent to us. When therapy is effective, we find a way around allowing addiction and that craving to take over our lives and instead, allow important things and responsibilities to reside there.

We know what our goals are, and what we’re looking to achieve in recovery. Through these exercises, counseling sessions, 12-step meetings, mindfulness exercises and family therapy, we know what we need to be happy and healthy. It’s up to us after weeks and months of working these steps, and implementing these beneficial exercises with guidance, to take the reigns and be accountable.

Understanding Your Triggers

We’re all human, and it happens to us all; we react to things that bother us or when presented with stressful encounters. The problem isn’t that we react, but how we react and what is important to us in the long run. As we go through detox and work through counseling sessions to understand mental health conditions, how they relate to addiction and how we live with these circumstances, we learn what our addiction is triggered by daily.

Maybe your trigger is being left alone and thinking about the past, or remembering past trauma. Make a list or take notes on some of the triggers you learn about as you move through detox and counseling. Maybe your trigger isn’t anything specific, but something else entirely like a feeling or simply being at home. We learn what our triggers are when tested the most. After your addiction recovery program is through, real life situations present themselves, and this is where we are tested. How will we react? In therapy, we ask our clients to jot down these moments they feel safe and calmed after they are presented with a trigger. Thinking back to these moments, we know what to do. We can live in active recovery because we’ve been taught.
