Getting outside and getting moving can be a hard thing to do. Depending on the type of person an individual is, going outside may not be that much fun. There are activities a person can do that are more fun than others, but the key is to find what works best for an individual and try that activity. There are many ways to get outside and to reap the benefits.

Vitamin D

One of the most obvious reasons to get outside is for the boost of Vitamin D. Getting enough of this hormone is essential to boosting the immune system and keeping everything healthy. Osteoporosis, cancer, and Alzheimer’s can creep up on people who do not stay healthy with Vitamin D levels. Getting enough sunlight is better naturally but to function properly, just go out for 15 mins a day and soak up some rays. It’s well worth the time.

Eye Health

Getting outside can improve eye health. There are two distinct reasons for this. The following are some of them:

  • Prevents Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS). this is used to describe eye problems caused by staring at a screen close to the face for long periods of time. Blurred vision, double vision, dry eyes, eye irritation, headaches, neck, and back pain are all associated with this problem.
  • Artificial Light Provokes Nearsightedness. New research shows increased exposure to artificial light may have a negative impact on nearsightedness. Kids especially need time outside to develop their senses and ability to play.

Improved Sleep

Poor sleep is often caused by poor sleep patterns. Our sleep patterns are regulated by an internal body clock called circadian rhythms. These rhythms tie to the sun’s schedule. Too much time inside can  alter rhythmic sleeping patterns and cause difficulty sleeping. For better sleep, head outside.

Fresh Air

One of the best benefits of heading outdoors is getting some ‘fresh air.’ outdoor pollutants are actually lower than indoor ones and pose less of a serious health risk. Staying inside can truly be detrimental to one’s health. One way to do this is by exercising outdoors. Going indoors has health benefits for moving and getting the body going but it is not as healthy as exercise outside such as yoga, tai chi, walking, jogging or cycling, to name a few.
